Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 21, 2026

The Reasoned Home respects the privacy of its readers. This Privacy Policy explains the information we may receive when you visit reasonedhome.com, contact us, or otherwise interact with the site, how that information may be used, and the choices available to you.

Information You Provide

If you contact The Reasoned Home by email, we may receive information such as your email address, name, message, article URL, attachments, or other information you choose to send us.

Technical and Site-Operation Information

Our hosting, security, and website infrastructure may process technical information needed to deliver, operate, and protect the site, such as IP address, browser or device information, requested pages, timestamps, and server or security logs.

The site may also use cookies or similar local technologies when they are needed for website functionality, administration, security, or other operational purposes.

How We Use Information

We may use information to operate and secure the site, respond to questions or correction reports, maintain and improve published content, diagnose technical problems, prevent abuse, and comply with applicable legal obligations.

Analytics and Optional Cookies

The Reasoned Home may use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), provided by Google, to understand how readers find and use the site and to help us improve our content and website experience.

Analytics is optional. Our policy is to use GA4 only in connection with an analytics choice presented through the site’s cookie controls. If you do not allow analytics, we do not intend to use GA4 to collect analytics information from your visit.

When analytics is allowed, GA4 may collect information such as page views, session information, scroll activity, outbound-link clicks, referring information, approximate geographic information, and browser or device information.

GA4 may use first-party cookies, including cookies such as _ga and _ga_<container-id>, to distinguish users and maintain session information. Google documents a default expiration of two years for these cookies, although actual cookie duration can be affected by browser restrictions and configuration.

Our current GA4 configuration keeps Google Signals, user-provided data collection, granular location and device data collection, and advertising personalization disabled. Enhanced Measurement is limited to page views, scrolls, and outbound clicks.

We also configure the GA4 web stream to redact detected email addresses and to redact the value of the WordPress site-search query parameter s from affected URL information before that data is sent to Google Analytics. Data redaction is an additional safeguard and is not a substitute for avoiding personal information in URLs or analytics data.

Our GA4 property is configured with a 14-month retention period for user-level and event-level data covered by Google Analytics retention controls. Google notes that these retention controls do not govern all aggregated standard reporting data.

Advertising and Affiliate Tracking

Programmatic advertising and affiliate tracking are not currently active on The Reasoned Home.

If we later activate advertising, affiliate tracking, or materially different commercial measurement technologies, we will review the related privacy, notice, consent, and disclosure requirements and update this Privacy Policy when appropriate.

Our separate Affiliate Disclosure explains how we intend to disclose affiliate and other material commercial relationships when they are introduced.

Service Providers and Other Disclosures

We may use service providers to support website hosting, email, analytics when permitted, security, and other operational functions. Those providers may process information as needed to provide their services.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, protect the site or others, investigate misuse, enforce applicable terms, or respond to valid legal process.

Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including responding to inquiries, maintaining security, resolving disputes, and meeting applicable legal or operational requirements.

Retention periods can vary depending on the type of information, the reason it was received, and the service involved. Google Analytics data covered by its user and event data-retention controls is currently configured as described in the Analytics and Optional Cookies section above.

Your Privacy Choices and Rights

You may choose whether to allow optional analytics when the site’s analytics consent controls are presented to you.

Depending on where you live and the circumstances, you may also have legal rights relating to your personal information. You may contact us to ask a privacy question or make a request. We will review requests under the laws that apply to the request and to The Reasoned Home.

Children’s Privacy

The Reasoned Home is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children under 13 through the site.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us so that we can review the situation and take appropriate action.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect the site and information we handle. No website, email system, transmission method, or method of electronic storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

External Links

Our content may link to websites, merchants, products, or services operated by others. Those third parties are responsible for their own privacy practices, and their practices are governed by their own policies rather than this Privacy Policy.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the site, its services, our data practices, or applicable requirements change.

When we make a material update, we will revise the effective date on this page.
