Editorial Standards
The Reasoned Home publishes practical home guidance for ordinary, lived-in homes. Our editorial standards are designed to make that guidance useful, transparent, and appropriately supported by evidence.
Practical Usefulness Over Perfection
We prioritize advice that helps readers make a concrete decision or solve a real household problem. We aim to explain tradeoffs, constraints, and maintenance rather than present one solution as universally right for every home.
Research and Verification
We distinguish between general household ideas and claims that depend on product specifications, manufacturer instructions, safety guidance, materials, measurements, costs, building requirements, or other facts that can change. When those details materially affect the advice, we check appropriate current sources before publishing and update the guidance when warranted.
Evidence and Firsthand Claims
We do not claim that we tested, measured, used, observed, photographed, or experienced something unless that actually happened and can be supported. Reader stories, expert quotations, statistics, sources, and before-and-after results must not be invented or presented as real evidence when they are not.
Images and Visual Evidence
Photos, diagrams, and other visuals should accurately represent what they claim to show. Depending on the article, we may use original photography, licensed or authorized images, permitted merchant assets, diagrams, or AI-generated supporting imagery. AI-generated imagery is not presented as proof of a real test, real room, real person, or real result.
Product Recommendations and Commercial Relationships
Product or service recommendations should be based on usefulness, reader fit, relevant tradeoffs, and appropriate evidence. The availability of an affiliate commission, advertising relationship, or other commercial benefit should not determine whether a statement is presented as fact. When a commercial relationship could affect how readers understand a recommendation, we aim to disclose it clearly.
AI-Assisted Editorial Work
AI may assist with research organization, outlining, drafting, editing, or other production tasks. It may not be used to fabricate personal experience, tests, measurements, reader submissions, expert quotes, statistics, sources, or results. The Reasoned Home remains responsible for the content it publishes.
Safety and Professional Limits
Home guidance can depend on materials, manufacturer instructions, building systems, local conditions, and individual needs. We avoid presenting general editorial guidance as professional advice when qualified specialist judgment is required, and we aim to use appropriate authoritative sources when safety or technical details materially affect the recommendation.
Updates and Corrections
We review meaningful error reports and outdated details and update published guidance when warranted. Readers can report a possible error through our Contact page.
